The Vikings
The Vikings lived 1,000 years ago. They came from Norway, Denmark andSweden. They are famous because of their sea journeys . Theyattacked many countries in Western Europe. Often they stole everything and burned wholevillages and towns. Everyone was afraid of these red-haired fighters. They also went to lookfor trade and new lands to live in, even to countries as far away as North America.
Viking boats were called longships. The Vikings made their longships with wood, and these
ships were very fast and strong. Each ship could carry about 80 Vikings. The men
sailed the ship for hundreds of kilometres. When a very importantViking died, the people buried him in the ground in a longship..
Viking families made their houses from wood,. Therewas a hole in the roof to let out smoke from the cooking fire. During long, dark nights of thenorthern European winter, the Vikings told stories about their heroes, and great warriors.
